I’m not much of a blogger, frankly I’ve never even read one, but when this idea came to me I thought a blog would be a perfect vehicle to keep track of our progress.
This idea came to me early 1 morning while I was getting ready for work. I had recently seen Julie/Julia and perhaps how enjoyable the movie was and the thrill of having a new “project” urged me to pursue this further.
I immediately elicited the help of my husband, who although somewhat suspect, agreed to participate (however, never to blog….we’ll see). That evening I called 2 friends to join in the fun. As you get to know us, you’ll see why it didn’t surprise me that I got an instantaneous, “We’re game”.
The 4 of us are as diverse as possible. We come from 3 parts of the country, represent 2 sexual orientations (if there’s more than that, I don’t want to know about it), observe 3 different religions, and have careers in 4 different professional categories. We’re short & tall and thin & fat (which is why you won’t see pictures of us just yet). Although some of us don’t remember our natural colors, I think all of us were originally brunettes.
Since I know nothing about “Blogging” I went directly to the IS Director at my company to help me set it up. In the beginning, I suspect it will be fairly rudimentary but I’m a quick study and armed with a Masters in Fine Arts, I should be able to pretty it up in no time.
OK, the project you say, what’s the project? We will “celebrate” the 50 states plus 2 territories in 52 weeks, “50+2 in 52”. We plan on checking off each state, here forth referred to as “Coloring In a State”, by some means, not yet defined, of commemoration.
Over the last 8 years or so I have been collecting “tacky little snow globes” and displaying them in my office at work. You know the snow globes, the city or state globes that you pick up in any self-respecting souvenir shop or airport gift shop. I have purchased them during my travels and have solicited friends and co-workers to assist with the collection growth. I don’t have globes to represent all the states but maybe as this project develops we can get your help with this. The plan is to use the snow globes as part of the blog graphics.
Project 52 started earlier than expected when we had the opportunity to use a condo in Destin, FL for a week – Road Trip!
At this point we had no blog site set-up, no project guidelines and my snow globe collection had some serious holes in it. However, even with these major issues to work out it still seemed like a perfect place to start.
